11/28 Physics class and homework due 12/5
Hi folks,
In class today, we got into a new concept of free body diagrams. Free body diagrams help to analyze the different forces on objects in order to determine the net force and acceleration of those objects.
We also spent a good bit of time learning Newton's 3rd Law and demonstrating how it works with the help of two skateboards.
Homework this week is to read the following web pages
http://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/newtlaws/Lesson-2/Drawing-Free-Body-Diagrams
http://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/newtlaws/Lesson-2/Determining-the-Net-Force
I would highly recommend taking a look at the problems and the solutions on each one of these pages.
Also, do the interactives on this page http://www.physicsclassroom.com/Physics-Interactives/Newtons-Laws/Free-Body-Diagrams/Free-Body-Diagram-Interactive. The page is a little clumsy, but with a bit of patience hopefully you'll get the hang of it. When you get the answer, write down the force body diagram on a separate piece of paper to hand in.

Please bring a coat to Physics Class!
Hi folks,
I'm planning on doing some stuff outside today so please bring some warm clothes since it's going to be pretty chilly today.
See you all soon!

11/14 Physics Class Update and Homework due 11/28
Hi folks,
First off, NO CLASS NEXT WEEK!!! It's Thanksgiving so we will be skipping next week for travel and family.
Second, ALL HOMEWORK is due on 11/28. Please let me know if you need any assistance getting in any assignments you may be missing.
Homework due after T-day is:
Read pages 59 - 70 in the text book
Do Review Questions 1 - 18 on page 71 and 72
Do Plug and Chug questions 1 - 5 on page 72
Also, be sure to master those "Throw the ball off the tower" and those "River" problems. They will continue to return week after week. Look over your old quizzes and redo those problems from scratch. Then check your answers when you're done.
Have a great holiday everyone!

Re: Physics class homework help
Hi Folks,
It looks like a few folks are having trouble finding that final time. Let me see if this helps.
So you've got distance and you've got time, right? This allows you to figure out average velocity? So, if the wagon was constantly accelerating, when was that average time reached? Remember the ball and the ramp? You figured out the average velocity using v=d/t, how did you take that average to find the final velocity? We've also done this on quizzes. Take a look at some of your old quizzes to see if you can find the answer.
Let me know if you're still having trouble and I'll help more.
Good luck!

11/7 Physics update and homework due 11/14
Hi folks,
Today we had a quite a bit of fun getting hands-on with Newton's Second Law. We even got a chance to enjoy the nice day by using a wagon to explore the law.
For homework, use the data that we took today (see below) to determine the force applied for 4 different students. (Be sure to convert pound to kilograms. (Google can be your friend for this.) Use the formula f=ma to calculate force. Also, using the data for one person, create an acceleration vs. mass graph showing all three different masses.
Also for homework, I'd like you to go to this webpage and use it to finish the enclosed .pdf. (Don't worry about #15.)
